Security Tips from the KSB Locksmiths

Don’t Get Lazy

In our business we hear people worrying about the locksmith cost. But we have much more meaningful tips than just saving a few dollars on broken locks. The number one security tip that we always share with customers is not to get lazy. People have the mentality that if they have not been broken into yet, then it probably won’t happen in the future. Unfortunately that is not the case. Any good locksmith will tell you that you can never be too careful. It is very often that one time that we forget to turn the alarm on, or forget to deadbolt the door that something happens. When it comes to safety and security, one can never be too vigilant. Don’t let your guard down!

Avoid the locksmith cost and just lock the door!

People spend a lot of money on elaborate security systems, and more often than not the weakest link is human error. If you have state of the art locks installed, but you neglect to use them, then what have you accomplished. We always advise customers to purchase and install something that is easy to use. If the alarm has too many steps to follow then you will tend to cut some corners, which defeats the entire purpose.

When you move into a new home, have a locksmith do a security audit.

Moving into a new home can be exciting but sometimes amidst all the new plans we forget to think about security. Whether you are renting or buying, always rekey. You don’t know who the previous tenants or owners gave a key to, or what kind of company they kept. The locksmith cost and money you spend on re keying is well worth it. When the locksmith comes by for that job ask him to inspect all the locks and windows and look for weaknesses and old hardware. Pay extra attention not just to the locks, but also doors, window frames and hinges. And don’t forget the garage door. Very often people leave their interior door to the garage unlocked. Therefore if a home intruder can access the garage door, he or she has complete access to your home.

Install an alarm system

Many people do not like the locksmith cost, nor do they like spending money on an alarm system. Well, in 2020 alarm systems come in many different forms. Everyone should have one, but the specific type that is right for you will vary. The new trend is to install security cameras that have the capacity to be monitored remotely. These are great and many people really like them. Though if cameras is not for you, that’s perfectly fine and don’t be pressured into getting them. The key however is to get something, even a basic door and window alarm, and then let people know that your house is protected by displaying stickers/signage.
